The Town of Machias Water District water has been tested continuously over the past week and our nitrate levels have been in the normal range. The high nitrate levels had been found in Well #1 and under the guidance of the Cattaraugus County Health Department, the water was switched to Well #3. Well #3 and other locations in the Water District have been tested numerous times since switching wells and all nitrate readings have been in the safe range. Well #3 will continue to be monitored, as well as continued testing of Well #1. Once Well #1 returns to normal nitrate levels and remains there, Well #1 will be put back into service. The Cattaraugus County Health Department will continue monthly testing of nitrate levels.

Attention all residents & visitors to Lime Lake. The Machias Fire Department has asked that we remind you that there is no parking on the streets around the Lake. This restriction is for your safety and that of your neighbors. If the fire trucks or ambulance can't get through to a call, the result could be devastating. Please be a good neighbor/citizen and park somewhere else.
